J&K to launch golf tourism packages

SRINAGAR: The Jammu & Kashmir department of tourism is launching packages specifically aimed at attracting golfers from across India and other countries.

Besides ensuring that golf courses are properly maintained and cleaned on regular intervals, to further improve the experience of golfers, professional training will be imparted to caddies so as to ensure professionalism and discipline within the greens.

In this regard, state tourism secretary Sarmad Hafeez (IAS) Wednesday chaired a meeting at Royal Springs Golf Course to review the functioning of golf courses especially Srinagar’s Royal Springs Golf Course (RSGC).

Various issues were discussed regarding the functioning and other maintenance operations of RSGC.

Managing Director J&K Golf Development and Management Authority (GDMA) Ghalib Mohiuddin Shah gave a detailed power-point presentation regarding the status and ongoing developmental works at RSGC.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Hafeez directed that the functioning of RSGC should be further improved so that the golfers will have a good experience at the course.

The tourism secretary also assured all the support to the golf association in organising golf tournaments and attracting golfers to the state.

“We have world class golf courses which can attract golfers from across the world. If we tap golf tourism, we are attracting high-spending tourists,” said Hafeez.

He said the department would maintain highest standard of these golf courses so that golfers coming from across the world can have better experience.
