KOCHI: ‘Operation Olympics’, a programme designed to train athletes in 11 sporting disciplines by the government of Kerala, has commenced.
Kerala chief minister M Pinarayi Vijayan confirmed the development on his official Facebook account, stating that the state sports council and department have registered 123 athletes for the programme.
Its objective lies in providing them training of world-class standard courtesy highly qualified coaches and trainers from India and overseas for winning medals in top multi-discipline events such as the Olympics and Asian Games.
The 11 disciplines include athletics, boxing, cycling, swimming, shooting, wrestling, badminton, fencing, rowing and archery.
For wrestling, cycling, swimming and boxing, sessions are being conducted at various stadiums in the Thiruvananthapuram district, while programs for other sports are taking place in Kollam, Ernakulam, Alapuzha and Kannur districts.
