Kohli’s brand value up 39% at $237.5m in 2019: Study

MUMBAI: Virat Kohli’s brand value continues its soar ever higher and the “blue sky” between the Team India captain and the cricket’s other supertars is getting ever more pronounced. 

Kohli’s brand value has risen 39% to $237.5 million in 2019, according to key findings from the fifth edition of global advisory firm Duff & Phelps’ Celebrity Brand Valuation Study 2019: “New is Gold”, released Wednesday. The study provides a ranking of India’s most powerful celebrities based on brand values derived from their endorsement contracts.
 
Key findings include: 
Kohli retains the top position for the third consecutive year. His brand value rose by 39% to $237.5 million in 2019.
Akshay Kumar overtakes Deepika Padukone to take the second position, with brand value of $104.5m, at a growth of 55.3%.
Bollywood power couple Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone claim the third spot with a brand value of $93.5m each. Deepika retains her most valuable female celebrity status for the second consecutive year whereas Ranveer moves up a spot, to now occupy the same position as Deepika Padukone. 
Total value of the top 20 celebrity brands stands at $1.1 billion, with the top 10 contributing about 75% of the total value.

On the sports front, the “significant others” in the rankings are MS Dhoni at 9 with a brand value of $41.2m. Sachin Tendulkar at 15 with 25.1m and fast rising Rohit Sharma in 20th spot with $23m.
