KOLKATA is gearing up for a city-wide celebration of fitness, sustainability and community spirit with the Kolkata Cyclothon 2025. Organised by the Loha Foundation, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Fit India Movement, with registrations now open, a media release said.
Scheduled for 9 November, the Cyclothon, themed “Ride for Change, Ride for Kolkata”, is expected to draw more than 3,000 participants as the city promotes fitness, promote green mobility, and community spirit.
The festival will turn Kolkata’s iconic streets into a vibrant celebration of cycling, bringing together riders, families, students and professionals. The event carries a total prize purse of Rs 5.5 lakh along with exclusive gift hampers to be awarded through a lucky draw.
In an effort to make the movement inclusive, organisers have also introduced a 5km Fun Run for those who wish to participate without a bicycle. The initiative is supported by civic authorities and aligns with national campaigns such as Fit India Sundays on Cycle and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
SAI Kolkata regional director Amar Jyoti said, “A healthy human, a healthy family and a healthy society, this is the path to ‘Shresth Bharat’. This is what PM Narendra Modi had said. Building on that vision, Fit India builds daily habits; ‘Sundays on Cycle’ makes them weekly; and the Kolkata Cyclothon invites every citizen to ride–or run–toward a fit, healthy and joyful Kolkata.”
Loha Foundation event director Meher Tiwari added, “We want to make a Fitness Extravaganza in Kolkata where every citizens with or without cycles can enjoy; That is why we have kept the registration fees barest minimum ever in India.”
