Mar 2 BCCI apex council meeting has packed agenda on cards

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s apex council meeting on March 2 has a packed agenda on the cards.

Among the items on the agenda that the council will reportedly decide on is the fate of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy and the Senior Women’s T20 League. Both tournaments, which were scheduled to start in January and February respectively, were postponed due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

The 14-point agenda for the meeting includes the organisation of these two domestic events with Covid-19 situation getting better across the country. Also on the agenda, which is in PTI’s possession, is the formation of local organising committee (LOC) for the 2023 ICC World Cup that India is hosting.

The T20 World Cup last year could not take place in India due to the pandemic but the BCCI is looking forward to hosting another major ICC event next year.

Appointment of GM – Game Development will also be finalised after Dhiraj Malhotra left the role last month. As per The Hindu, the council is likely to appoint former India pacer Abey Kuruvilla, a former national selector, to the position.

Additionally, the meeting is likely to deliberate on a change in venues for India’s upcoming five-match T20I series at home against South Africa in June. The BCCI had announced Chennai, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Rajkot and Delhi as the venues for the series scheduled from June 9 to 19. However, considering the COVID-19 situation and the arrival of monsoon in most of the country, the apex council may restrict the series to one or two venues in South India, The Hindu further reports.

Education start-up BYJU’S’ contract as Indian cricket team sponsor is set to end on March 31 and there will be a discussion on that too. BYJU’S had replaced Oppo as the team sponsor in July 2019.

Central contracts of men and women cricketers will be ratified and so will be the first-of-its-kind sexual harassment policy of the BCCI.

The hosting fee hike for state associations is also on the agenda and so is the appointment of a Sports Science head at the National Cricket Academy. The order passed in case of representation of Purvanchal Cricket Association will be ratified as well, PTI further reports.
