Martha Stewart joins Swansea City ownership group

AMERICAN BUSINESSWOMAN and television personality Martha Stewart has joined Swansea City as a co-owner, the Welsh club confirmed on Tuesday.

Stewart, recognised as the first female self-made billionaire in the United States, attended Swansea’s 2–1 Championship victory over Wrexham last Friday as a guest of the club. Her experience at the match appears to have strengthened her interest in the project.

“We are very excited to welcome Martha on board,” Swansea said in a statement. “We know experiencing Friday night’s game in-person has only increased her own enthusiasm and anticipation for being part of Swansea City.”

Stewart becomes the latest high-profile figure to take a minority stake in the club. American rapper Snoop Dogg joined the ownership group in July, while Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modrić became a minority co-owner earlier this year, in April.

On the pitch, Swansea currently sit 19th in the Championship, with a return to the Premier League looking unlikely in the short term, particularly for the upcoming season.
