MUMBAI: Star India announced on Monday that it will be broadcasting the second season of KBD Juniors, India’s largest televised school sports outreach programme on Star Sports and Hotstar in association with Star’s subsidiary company Mashal Sports, the co-owners and organisers of the VIVO Pro Kabaddi League.
Both the events will run simultaneously in the same 12 cities at the same time.
KBD Juniors was launched last season to encourage the sport amongst the younger generation and 96 schools participated in it as 156.4 million viewers witnessed South Point World School from Sonipat win the title. Season 2 is expected to be bigger and better as 3500 students across 288 schools in India between the age of 11 and 12 will battle it out to pass the three stages: City qualifiers, city finals and national finals.
The city qualifiers will begin today in Hyderabad. 24 schools are divided into 8 groups of 3 teams who will play against each other. From each group, the team finishing first will then make it to the round of city finals, which will take place during the home leg of each city as part of Season VI of VIVO Pro Kabaddi and then the National finals.
Star Sports and Mashal Sports will also provide initial training to the PE teachers in each school via an introductory kit along with coach meet and greets.The broadcast schedule for the matches will be released at a later date.
