McLaren, Google extend partnership with Gemini at the core

MCLAREN RACING and Google have extended their partnership with Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, now set to play a central role in the McLaren Formula 1 Team’s operations.

The team will harness Gemini to elevate its use of AI across performance analysis, creative design, and fan engagement, helping McLaren work more efficiently and explore new competitive advantages on race weekends.

During the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend, Google will showcase Gemini’s creative capabilities on the Sphere, where a dynamic installation will display the McLaren F1 car transforming in real time across various artistic styles, from oil painting to technical drawing.

Under the renewed agreement, Google will continue as an official primary partner of the McLaren Formula 1 Team. The extension follows Gemini’s successful debut at the United States Grand Prix, where Gemini-themed livery enhancements featured on the cars and race suits, and its image-generation tools helped inspire Oscar Piastri’s customised helmet design.

In addition to Gemini, several Google technologies will remain integral to McLaren’s operations. Pixel and Google Health Devices support seamless communication and on-the-go connectivity; Android devices aid in capturing and analysing pit stop performance; Chrome ensures speed and reliability; and Google Cloud underpins the team’s data-driven decision-making. Together, these tools continue to bolster McLaren’s performance across every department, according to the media release.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said, “Our partnership with Google has always been built on shared values of innovation and performance. The introduction of Gemini marks an exciting next step, helping us continually explore how AI can support our team both on and off the track. Google are an incredible partner and we look forward to continuing to push for innovation and excellence alongside them.”

Google global vice president of marketing Nick Drake added, “F1 is defined by rapid innovation, so we’re thrilled to place Gemini at the center of our renewed partnership. We’re integrating our AI assistant into multiple aspects of the team’s workflow – giving engineers, drivers, and staff a powerful new tool to accelerate productivity and optimise performance across the team – while also bringing fans closer to the action than ever before.”
