COMCAST-OWNED MEDIA CONGLOMERATE NBC is reportedly looking to set a new benchmark for the price of a 30-second spot for Super Bowl commercials as it kicks off preliminary discussions with advertisers for the 2022 edition of world sport’s biggest single day money spinner. And the price tag? No less than $6 million!
Super Bowl LVI is slated to be broadcast on February 13, 2022, from Inglewood.
As per Variety, which first reported on the mind-boggling price that has been set for Super Bowl LVI, NBC is also telling potential sponsors they may have to buy an equal amount of ad inventory in its 2022 broadcast of the Beijing Winter Olympics — scheduled to take place between February 4 and February 20 of next year — if they want to guarantee prominent placement in its telecast of the gridiron classic, such as the first slot of a commercial break or in the first quarter of the game.
Variety further reports that at $6 million, NBC would be seeking a 9.1% increase over the $5.5 million CBS sought for 30 seconds of ad time in 2021 and Fox pressed for in 2020.
CBS’ 2021 broadcast of Super Bowl LV generated approximately $545 million in in-game advertising, according to Kantar, a tracker of ad spending — a new record. The network ran 96 national and local spots as well as promos, accounting for about 57 minutes’ worth of ad time.
