NEW DELHI: The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASSOCHAM), one of India’s apex trade associations, presented India’s ‘Best Sports Federation’ award to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) at the event in the city on Thursday, Sportstar reports.
NRAI President Raninder Singh was quoted as saying to the publication after the win: “This is another feather on the cap of the shooting sport community. They have been raising the performance bar every day over the past few years. Our shooters are doing well in the Asian Airgun championship in Chinese Taipei now. On behalf of the entire shooting fraternity, I most humbly accept the award and express deep gratitude to ASSOCHAM for recognising us and encouraging us to do even better.”
Singh, who was also appointed as the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) vice-president, is believed to be the key figure in facilitating the ISSF World Cup 2019 broadcast rights deal with Sony Pictures Networks India for the Indian subcontinent. With public broadcaster Doordarshan sharing the rights, all World Cups will be televised from now.
In December 2018, the NRAI received a Rs 60 million funding for the next six years by JSW Sport for training Indian shooters for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games respectively.
The Indian shooting body had also succeeded in raising a record Rs 165 million as sponsorship revenue from the ISSF World Cup in June 2018.
