MUMBAI: If social media mentions is a pointer to the future, the next phase in the journey of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s former ‘captain cool’, is in the here and now.
As per social media analytics firm Twitteet, the Chennai Super Kings skipper did not feature in the top 5 list in Twitter engagements in October among Indian cricketers. Reason: Dhoni was not active at all on social media in October.
As for the ‘active’ cricketers, it is no surprise that Team India captain Virat Kohli topped the charts in Twitter engagements with over two million engagements.
Kohli also topped the charts among Indian sportspersons and finished third on the list among all Indians in Twitter engagements. Among Indians, only Prime Minister Narendra Modi (1) and Rahul Gandhi (2) had more Twitter engagements than Kohli in October.
As per Twitteet, Kohli was followed on the list by Suresh Raina, who didn’t turn up for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020 after pulling out of the season. CSK fans continuously requested Raina to make his comeback in UAE throughout the season as CSK struggled massively in his absence. CSK skipper MS Dhoni did not feature in the top 5 list as he was not active at all in October.
“The IPL was the flavour of the season for cricketers where expectedly India captain and expectant father Virat Kohli topped Twitter engagement with 2.4 million engagements. Suresh Raina was at #2 with 1.9 million engagements,” Twiteet said in a press release.
The legendary Sachin Tendulkar took the third sport followed by former cricketer and popular commentator Aakash Chopra at the number 4 spot. Harbhajan Singh took the 5th spot as he remained quite active on Twitter during the IPL 2020.
“Former stars Sachin Tendulkar at #3, Harbhajan Singh at #5, and Virender Sehwag at #6, actively engage with fans and followers on Twitter with 1.5 million; 6.8 lakh and 6.3 lakh engagements. Aakash Chopra, now a commentator is also hugely popular and ranks #4 with over 9.65 lakh engagements on Twitter in October,” the press release added.
