THE PAKISTAN CRICKET BOARD suffered a revenue loss of $90 million in its last media rights deal because of the frozen bilateral ties with India since 2008, an unnamed PCB official has confirmed.
India have played against Pakistan only in ICC tournaments in the last few years due to the diplomatic tensions between the two nations.
A PCB source told PTI that the value of the Pakistan board’s five-year media rights deal, which expired this month, eroded by as much as 60% as the contract terms included two home series against India, which did not take place as the BCCI rescinded on the Memorandum of Understanding that was in place in the wake of the Indian government’s refusal to grant permission for the tours in question.
The PCB had signed a $149 million media rights agreement with Ten Sports (international territories) and PTV (for Pakistan) on the condition that these series would be held. “Unfortunately, since Pakistan was unable to play two home series against India, as included in the agreement, Ten Sports and PTV deducted $90 million of the total sum as per the agreement,” the PCB source revealed to PTI.
