NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court provided a huge lifeline to India’s beleaguered cricket administrators Friday, modifying its earlier order to state that the nine-year cumulative period would be applicable separately to the BCCI and state associations subject to a cooling off period.
And on the critical matter of the administrators who would run the richest cricketing boy in the world till elections are called, the apex court declared that the names would be revealed on January 24.
A bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra (in the news recently for his controversial order on how and when the national anthem should be played in a cinema hall) directed that the names provided by senior advocates Anil Divan and Gopal Subramaniam, who have been appointed as amicus curiae to assist the court, for being appointed as BCCI administrators be kept secret.
The bench, also comprising justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, agreed to consider the plea of Railways, Services and Association of Universities which lost the full memberships status and were downgraded as associate members.
Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for them, said that the judgment should be recalled and revisited as larger questions have not been answered.
