Shahrukh Khan, Bollywood superstar and principal owner of two-time Indian Premier League-winning franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, is set to illuminate the opening ceremony of the Women’s Premiere League 2024 aka ‘Cricket ka Queendom’.
The other Bollywood stars set to feature in the opening ceremony of WPL 2024 to be held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday at 6:30 PM IST include the likes of Shahid Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan, and Tiger Shroff.
The cricket tournament, featuring five teams, is gearing up for its second edition, with defending champions Mumbai Indians led by Haramanpreet Kaur taking on the Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals in Friday’s opening game.
This season of the WPL will be played at two venues – M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.
Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Banglaore, and Uttar Pradesh Warriors are competing in the 2024 edition of the WPL. The tournament finals is scheduled to take place in New Delhi on March 17.
For the 2024 edition, teams have reorganized their respective squads, let go of some players, and acquired others in the auction, investing up to Rs 2 crore on some of the star players.
The highest-priced players at the 2024 WPL auction were:
Annabel Sutherland from Australia, bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 cr.
India’s all-rounder Kashvee Gautam, picked up by Gujarat Giants for Rs 2 cr, is unable to play due to injury and has been replaced by Sayali Satghare for a reserve price of Rs 10 Lakhs.
India’s batter Vrinda Dinesh purchased by UP Warriorz for Rs 1.3 cr.
South Africa’s sensational bowler Shabnim Ismail, bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.2 cr.
Australia’s batter Phoebe Litchfield, acquired by Gujarat Giants for Rs 1 cr.
