LOS ANGELES: Twitter, the global social media platform has won the digital rights for presenting all content of the Overwatch League, the first major global professional eSports league with city-based teams across Asia, Europe, and North America.
The collaboration is expected to break new ground in creative programming and video-on-demand content.
In a multi-year deal, Twitter will be showcasing real-time video highlights of the competition’s All-Star Weekend on the 25th and 26th of August first up.
From the regular season in 2019, Watchpoint, a weekly preview show covering upcoming matches in the competition, will be streamed live on Twitter via @overwatchleague. Watchpoint will be providing fans with stats, match predictions, analysis, and more. The social media giant will also be driving the Overwatch League’s distribution of near-real-time highlight clips from every match of the season, playoffs and Grand Finals.
“From the inception of the Overwatch League, the community on Twitter has always been one of our most passionate and engaged,” said Daniel Cherry, vice president and chief marketing officer of Activision Blizzard Esports Leagues, the parent company of the league.
“That’s why we are particularly excited to announce this collaboration, beginning with the Overwatch League’s All-Star Weekend.”
“Twitter is where Overwatch League conversations happen and we’re thrilled to bring more content to the platform for several years,” said Rishi Chadha, Twitter’s head of gaming partnerships.
“Overwatch League is one of the most Tweeted-about esports leagues on the platform, and this partnership will bolster that conversation.”
