Uday Shankar appointed as FICCI vice-president

NEW DELHI: The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) has named new Walt Disney Asia Pacific President and Star India chairman Uday Shankar as its new vice president after its 91st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 14-15 December. This caps off a remarkable week for the award-winning media veteran, who has over two decades of experience in the industry.

Shankar becomes the first media and entertainment executive in India to be appointed for a leadership position in a national industry chamber like FICCI. Previously, he was the chairman of the FICCI media and entertainment committee and the Indian Broadcasting Federation President, being instrumental in advocating changes in self-regulation in the media and access for consumers to digitized distribution.

He will be joined by Sangita Reddy, who has been named the senior vice president of the reputed institution. On the other hand, Sandip Somany has been promoted to the position of President.
