UP signs MoU with AVW Global to revive MotoGP

GOVERNMENT OF Uttar Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AVW Global on 24 February, signalling the potential return of MotoGP and the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) to India at the Buddh International Circuit.

AVW Global, a motorsport events and advisory firm founded by former MotoGP rider Karel Abraham, will work alongside the state to facilitate the revival of elite motorcycle racing in the country. The agreement marks a significant step towards restoring India’s presence on the top-tier global two-wheeler racing calendar.

Abraham underscored India’s status as the world’s largest motorcycle market, noting that the initiative aims not only to bring premier racing back to Indian soil but also to create pathways for emerging domestic talent to compete internationally.

The Buddh International Circuit, which has previously hosted a MotoGP round and other global motorsport events, is expected to serve as the primary venue. While dates are yet to be confirmed, Ron Hogg, promotions director at Two Wheels Motor Racing, said the organisation is pleased to be represented in India by AVW Global and expressed hope of staging races as early as July–August.

The MoU outlines plans to build a sustainable and structured motorcycle racing ecosystem in the state, capitalising on growing fan interest. Officials indicated that a carefully planned approach to hosting international events could attract substantial crowds, commercial partners and fresh investment.

Authorities believe the initiative will also boost tourism, create employment opportunities and enhance infrastructure in and around the circuit. The potential return of MotoGP and the ARRC forms part of a broader strategy to position Uttar Pradesh as a key destination on the global motorsport map.
