WinZO, Balaji Telefilms to build India’s first transmedia universe

WINZO has announced a partnership with Balaji Telefilms to build India’s first transmedia universe, an integrated creative ecosystem where stories, characters and games move fluidly across multiple formats. Within just three months of launching its microdrama platform, ZO TV, WinZO has surpassed 500 titles globally, either acquired or commissioned in India, underscoring the expansion of short-format entertainment.

The company is drawing on its strong track record in publishing and distributing more than 100 games, nurturing a community of 75,000 content creators, and serving 250 million users across established markets such as India and the US, as well as emerging regions like Brazil. This foundation has helped ZO TV cross 100 million episode views in a short period, reflecting the rise of a new creative economy where entertainment, technology and culture merge, a media release said.

Worldwide, microdramas continue to surge in popularity, with growth in market size, user engagement, mobile downloads and content output. The global short-drama industry is projected to expand from USD 12 billion in 2025 to USD 26 billion by 2030. To build a truly global transmedia franchise, India must deliver microdrama content with the craft and impact of cinema, an ambition this partnership with Balaji Telefilms aims to fulfil.

Balaji Telefilms, the studio that transformed Indian television and streaming content, will collaborate with WinZO to develop premium microdramas that blend cinematic quality with rich cultural storytelling, catering to audiences in India and around the world.

WinZO co-founder Paavan Nanda said, “We’re building the world’s first transmedia platform from India, where games, stories, and other digital experiences coexist. To do that, we’re partnering and investing to bring the entire creative ecosystem together. Microdramas are the next global frontier. Our strategic partnership with Balaji brings together the best storytellers and the best technology to create real, relatable stories that resonate with India and the world. We are excited to bring stories through this partnership to our over 250 million registered user base.”

Balaji Telefilms joint managing director Ekta Kapoor added, “Balaji has always believed that storytelling must evolve with the times. From television to digital and now to micro dramas, our journey has been driven by innovation and the desire to connect deeply with audiences everywhere. Through this collaboration with WinZO we’re creating micro dramas that reflect India’s evolving digital culture.”
