COLOMBO: Online payment solutions provider AstroPay announced Wednesday it is partnering with the Sri Lankan cricket team ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be held in the UAE and Oman from October 17th through to November 14th.
For AstroPay, this will be the first time the London-headquartered company is sponsoring a cricket team.
Mikael Lijtenstein, CEO of AstroPay, said: “While we have a heritage of partnerships in football, we are thrilled to be unceasingly participating in the sponsorship of international cricket, a sport that is a passion in the Indian subcontinent that transcends all social, economic and cultural contexts, with millions of people tuned in to watch the games.
“AstroPay has extensive experience in emerging markets, and this agreement provides us with an excellent opportunity to reinforce brand recognition in India, an important market for us.”
As part of the partnership, the Sri Lankan team will have the AstroPay logo stamped on the uniforms. The company’s brand will also be displayed on all the team’s social media channels.
Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket, said: “We welcome AstroPay into our ‘cast’, and I am confident that the company will gain excellent brand exposure through partnering with the Sri Lanka National T20 team during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup”.
