MUMBAI: Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan and Hindi film actor Suniel Shetty have joined hands with Ferit Sports India Pvt Ltd, founded by serial entrepreneurs Jasmeet Bhatia and Mitesh Sharmato, to launch Ferit Cricket Bash (FCB), which lays claim to being the country’s first nationwide cricket league for amateur cricketers.
FCB will feature 16 teams representing various regions of the country. Registration is open for players who are 15+ years.
The league’s stated aim is to discover the “most talented and passionate” amateur cricketers from across the country.
After two selection rounds involving several thousand aspiring cricketers across 22 cities in India, 224 players will be finally chosen and divided among the 16 teams.
These teams, which will be mentored by international cricketers and leading coaches from across India, will then compete with each other in a 15-over a side format.
Each shortlisted player will receive a participation fee of Rs 100,000 along with cash rewards for the winning teams.
The top 14 performers of FCB will be given an opportunity to represent the FCB All Stars Team and participate in a local club level tournament in Australia.
Discovery Communications branded sports channel DSport is the official broadcasting partner of FCB.
The Ferit Cricket Bash is going to be conducted in July/August 2019. However, registrations and the following selection process for phase 1 kicked off on Thursay.
