NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has extended the tenure of Sandip Mukund Pradhan, director-general (DG) of Sports Authority of India (SAI) for a period of two years.
Pradhan’s extension was made official after the Union cabinet formally approved the proposal put forward by the Sports Ministry. Subsequently, the decision, which will come into effect from June 6, was notified to the Sports Ministry by the Secretariat of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Department of Personnel & Training.
Pradhan was appointed as SAI D-G on August 1, 2019. He also served as Khelo India CEO from 2017 to 2019.
Pradhan joined SAI in August 2017 as deputy D-G from the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG), where he was director-general for four years (2013-2017). Alongside heading SAG, the Indian Revenue Service officer and IIT Kanpur alum was also named convenor of the Olympic Task Force by the Sports Ministry in 2016.
