DSport to broadcast Indian underarm cricket competition DPL

MUMBAI: Discovery Communications’ sports channel DSport has begun telecasting live matches of the city-based underarm cricket tournament, Dreamz Premier League (DPL).

DPL has been founded by Wasib Peshamim, the founder of recruitment and project infrastructure solutions firm Al Samit International. It has found a title sponsor in Realta Spaces, a real estate company founded in 2014.

The tournament will feature 20 teams with each of them having 19 players each. The team owners are elite business individuals belonging to diversified businesses across India, with the biggest draw being Gurmeet Singh, the chairman of the Global T20 Canada competition.

Other names include Juned Shariff and Naved Shariff (Niton Valves Industries), Vicky Kandhari (B Kandhari Properties), Shubham Lad (Krystal Securities), Vassim Shaikh (7 Star Digital), Pranav Ghule (Shreem Hyundai), Rohit Mishra (Shristi Tele Enterprises India Pvt LTD), Raj Mishra (Curry Corrainder) and DB Chand (Indo Asian Buildcon Pvt Ltd).

The action began on 24 February and will take place every weekend from 3-10 pm. The event is managed by Star Connect Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, a sports marketing agency which has managed events such as the Decathlon Sports Fair in the past.

We aim to promote underarm cricket by delivering exciting and engaging events, attracting new and diverse fans and building long-term successful partnerships,” Peshamim commented on the launch of the tournament.
