Rs825cr Veer Savarkar Sports Complex inaugurated in Ahmedabad

THE VEER SAVARKAR SPORTS COMPLEX in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, was inaugurated on Sunday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Built at a cost of Rs 825 crore, it is being described as the largest sports complex in India, according to the Press Information Bureau.

Designed as a state-of-the-art facility, the complex offers world-class sporting infrastructure, hostel accommodation for athletes, dedicated housing for coaches, and comprehensive medical support. Players will also have access to nutrition experts and a theatre equipped with advanced technology to review and analyse performances in slow motion. The venue further includes a Fit India Zone and an Outdoor Sports Zone.

Spanning 1,19,000 square metres, the facility has seven entry gates, parking for 900 vehicles, a 275-kilowatt solar power plant, and a 60 KLD sewage treatment unit, making it one of the most eco-friendly sports hubs in the country. The project has been jointly developed by the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shah announced that Ahmedabad’s sporting infrastructure will host the World Police and Fire Games in 2029. He added that India has bid for the Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad strongly positioned as the potential host city. Looking further ahead, Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing the Olympic Games to Ahmedabad in 2036, with preparations already underway. By that time, he said, the city will have staged 13 international tournaments, establishing itself as a major sporting centre not only for Gujarat, but for the whole of Asia.
