JioStar on Monday elevated Ishan Chatterjee, currently chief business officer – Sports Revenue, SMB & Creators at the Indian media behemoth, to the role of its new head – Sports & Live Experiences, replacing Sanjog Gupta, who has just taken charge as International Cricket Council chief executive.
Following the development, which SportzPower can confirm has been announced internally, Chatterjee will be reporting to Kiran Mani, CEO, Digital at JioStar.
Chatterjee will also work directly with JioStar’s vice-chairman Uday Shankar on strategic priorities, including sports transformation and stakeholder relationships, executives in the know said.
Chatterjee joined JioCinema (just before the Reliance-Disney India merger was announced) as chief business officer in 2024 after spending 13 years at Google, his last position being the managing director of YouTube India.
At the time of his joining JioCinema, Chatterjee was tasked with overseeing JioCinema’s overall monetization strategy. His appointment underscored the platform’s ambition to expand its footprint in India’s competitive streaming market, where the stated aim then was to deliver “cutting-edge experiences to a fast-growing subscriber base”.
Chatterjee brings over two decades of experience, including 13 years at Google, where he contributed to YouTube’s growth in India. He also worked at McKinsey and Hindustan Unilever.
At JioCinema, Chatterjee was responsible for growing revenue streams across sports and entertainment, with a particular focus on SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses).
Off the field of business, Chatterjee is a passionate cricket fan, drawing on the “game’s values of teamwork, resilience, and precision in his leadership approach”.
