Even as the merger process between Viacom18 and Disney Star India gathers pace with a definitive timeline in place, come some executive movements that are on expected lines. The biggie is that of Disney Star country manager and president K Madhavan, soon to be rendered “surplus”, who will be stepping down from his role at the media major.
Another top executive heading for the exit door at Disney Star is reportedly Sajith Sivanandan, head of Disney+ Hotstar. In this context, it bears noting that Viacom18-owned JioCinema has recently made two significant appointments in Ishan Chatterjee as chief revenue officer and Sushant Sreeram as chief marketing officer.
Both Chatterjee and Sreeram are reporting in directly to Kiran Mani, CEO of Digital Ventures at Viacom18.
Madhavan has been at the helm of Disney and Star India since 2019 and was named president of The Walt Disney Company India and Star India in April 2021.
He first joined Star India in 2009 as South head, after a successful stint leading Asianet’s growth as MD and CEO from 2000 to 2008.
Before his media career, Madhavan worked in banking and corporate finance.
