Close on the heels of his retirement from the Indian Premier League, R. Ashwin has registered himself for the ILT20 players auction.
The UAE’s franchise-based T20 league will be held between December 2 and January 4, with the auction taking place on September 30. The last date for player registration is September 10.
“I have sent my name for the ILT20 auction. Hopefully, I will have a buyer,” Ashwin told Cricbuzz.
Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan and Ambati Rayudu are the other “retired” Indian cricketers to have featured in the league.
Ashwin, who turned out for Chennai Super Kings in this year’s IPL, announced via a social media post on August 27 that he will be hanging up his boots from the world’s richest T20 league. “Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” the ace spinner had posted.
Ashwin had retired from international cricket in December last year during the tour of Australia after a decorated career that saw him become India’s second-highest wicket-taker (537) in Tests behind Anil Kumble (619).
