BOXING FEDERATION OF INDIA (BFI) will stage the inaugural BFI Cup in Chennai from 1 to 7 October, designed to give emerging boxers a clear pathway into the national camp.
The competition will feature 10 weight categories each for men and women. Gold and silver medallists will secure direct entry into the elite national camp.
State units and boards that finished in the top eight at the 8th Elite Nationals can send one boxer per category. The Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Rohtak, a regular base for youth camps, and host state Tamil Nadu are also eligible to field participants. In addition, boxers who competed at the last two Elite National Championships will be allowed to take part.
Eligibility has also been extended to those who represented India at the 2024 and 2025 Asian U-22 Championships, medallists at any international event since 2022, medallists from the Goa and Uttarakhand National Games, and medallists from the 6th Youth Nationals.
In a media release BFI president Ajay Singh said, “Indian boxing is undoubtedly on the rise and the BFI is committed to an athlete centric approach that is already showing good results. The BFI Cup is another step in that direction as it will provide many young boxers a chance to make their mark and come in national contention. Tournaments like the BFI Cup will provide the top boxers an opportunity to test their preparation and also helps BFI identify fresh talent.”
