British sportswear retailer JD Sports Fashion Plc has entered into a definitive agreement to wholly acquire “highly complementary” US sports apparel and equipment retailer Hibbett, Inc. to speed up its US expansion and enhance its presence in “the world’s biggest and most attractive sportswear market”.

Under the terms of the deal, Birmingham, Alabama-based Hibbett’s outstanding shares will be sold to JD Sports for $87.50 per share in cash for an aggregate enterprise value of approximately $1.1 billion.

NEW DELHI: Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday launched the Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) in Shillong as a Khelo India Sports School.  At present, nine sports schools have been approved across the country, out of which five are managed by Defence and Para-military forces. In the North-East region, Assam Rifles Public School is the first sports school announced under the Khelo India scheme.

NEW DELHI: Former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi has written to Delhi and District Cricket Association president Rohan Jaitley, demanding his name be removed from a stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla and renouncing his membership in the body. Reason: His "deep sense of embarrassment" over plans to install a statue of the late BJP leader Arun Jaitley, a former DDCA president, at the stadium.

PUNE: The Maharashtra government has announced it will set up the state's first world-class international sports university in Pune and it will be functional from the 2021-2022 academic year. State Sports Minister Sunil Kedar, who made the announcement here Thursday, said that the university will be the centre of sports excellence in the country that will pick and train sportspersons of international calibre.

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra cabinet on Wednesday approved a draft bill for the constitution of an international sports university, an official statement said. The state government had announced in the budget that such a university would be set up. The bill will be introduced in the Winter Session of the State Legislature next week, said a statement from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's office.

ROURKELA: After the success of Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup in 2018 and the scale at which it was hosted, FIH had announced last year that the 2023 FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup will be hosted in Odisha, for a second consecutive time, at two venues, Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
