NEW DELHI: Joining several other sportspersons, former Indian hockey team captain and two-time Olympian Pargat Singh and former national boxing coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu have decided to return their respective Padma Shri and Dronacharya Awards in support of agitating farmers.

Pargat was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998. As for Gurbax Singh, the Dronacharya Award is the highest national award in the field of coaching.

NEW DELHI: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Thursday informed that it has sanctioned over Rs 9 million to send a 42-member wrestling contingent for the Individual World Cup scheduled to be held from December 12 to 18 in Belgrade, Serbia.  This includes the costs of air tickets, boarding and lodging, amongst other things.

SEVERAL FORMER SPORTSPERSONS, including Padma Shri and Arjuna awardees, have said they will return their awards in protest against the draconian measures used by the Centre against agitating farmers.  Among them are Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee wrestler Kartar Singh, Arjuna awardee basketball player Sajjan Singh Cheema and Arjuna awardee hockey player Rajbir Kaur, PTI reports.
