PANAJI: The 37th Goods and Services Council on Friday proposed that the upcoming FIFA under-17 Women's World Cup be exempted from service tax, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said.

"To exempt services related to FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2020, similar to existing exemption given to FIFA under-17 World Cup 2017," IANS quotes Sitharaman as having said, basis the recommendations made by the GST Council, following a meeting here Friday.

The Women's under-17 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be held in India in November next year.

NEW DELHI: National Rifle Association of India (NRAI)  president Raninder Singh has written to the finance ministry asking for a review of imposition of GST on sports equipment. Shooters in the country say they have been hit hard by the Goods and Services Tax, which envisages a 18 to 28 per cent tax on air guns, pistols, and accessories of the sport, most of which needs to be imported.
