NEW DELHI: The Sports Ministry is in the process of hiring CEOs to run the National Sports Federations. Union Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore told PTI on Wednesday that his ministry will only take policy decisions on sports, the execution of which will be left to the professionals.

While stressing that there cannot be any alternative to the core principles of governance in sports, Rathore said, “Sixty-five per cent of India’s population is below 35. It is our PM’s vision (Khelo India initiative) to promote sporting culture in the country. So there would be zero tolerance in terms of misgovernance in sports."

“The federations will have to think beyond their turfs. There would be massive amount of transparency in terms of team selection, results. Everything has to be open and sharing,” he added.

Rathore's statement comes a week after Sports Authority of India director general and Union Sports Secretary Injeti Srinivas going on record to say that the SAI was planning to rope in managers to run National Sports Federations in an attempt to inject professionalism into the running of the NSFs. The SAI, he said, will spend Rs10 million or a little more per federation per annum towards the appointment of executives like 'a CEO or talent development director, a coach development and technical official development director.'
