BENGALURU: V Harimohan Naidu, a former chairman of the Bangalore Turf Club, was unanimously elected as its head again at the first meeting of the members of the new managing committee here on Wednesday.

For Naidu, who had held the top post from 2013 to 2015, the immediate task on his agenda will be to sort out the license issue, for which there currently appears no solution in sight and due to which all horse racing activities at the hallowed club remain suspended.

In this regard, Naidu and the newly elected members met Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, Deccan Herald reports.

Naidu told DH: “Our first agenda is to get racing back at BTC. I will call for a meeting with the committee members to work towards this goal. After a long time we are facing such an impasse. A similar situation did arrive earlier this year but the chief minister was kind enough to grant us the license.”

The government’s demand for increasing membership hasn’t been met by the club so far, despite considering it in June. “We will go through the requirements. We will understand the demands of the government and work towards the best interest of the club,” he said. Incidentally, it was during Naidu’s chairmanship that the government had approved of increasing the membership in 2014. However, the move was turned down by the club officials in a general body meeting.
