MUMBAI: Kolkata’s iconic venue, Eden Gardens is likely to host two IPL 2018 Playoff matches, a BCCI functionary told The Indian Express. Originally, it was Pune that was to host the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 on May 23 and 25 respectively.

But Kolkata is a favourite to replace Pune for these matches as the venue since the latter was chosen by Chennai Super Kings to host six of their seven home games.
Earlier in the tournament, Chennai was forced to shift their matches outside the city due to the Cauvery protests.

One reason given for the Eden Gardens to host them is its capacity being in excess of 66,000, which continues to be the highest in the country across all stadiums.
For the record, the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune can accommodate a little over 37,000 people.

Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium will host the Qualifier 1 and the Final on May 22 and 27 respectively as scheduled.
