RSD World Cricket Summit

Mumbai 19th December 2011: The 2nd edition of The RSD World Cricket Summit (WCS) was held in Mumbai with legendary cricketers like Ian Chappell, Mike Brearley, Kapil Dev, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ajay Jadeja taking centrestage.

The WCS has been conceptualised and established by late Shri Raj Singh Dungarpur’s grandnephew, Mr. Jaideep Sinh Parmar. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Jaideep Sinh Parmar, managing director, Beyond Boundaries said, “During his lifetime Raj Singhji was acknowledged as the unprejudiced and balanced voice of Indian cricket. That he loved cricket above all else it was only natural that what we formulated to commemorate him would have more to do with cricket and less with him. It is this philosophy that prompted me to institute the RSD World Cricket Summit, and also establish a lecture in his memory aptly called the Raj Singh Dungarpur ‘Voice of Cricket’ Lecture. I am happy that the WCS has forged a rapport with audiences and is looked upon as an impassive voice of cricket that strives for excellence in the game.”

The Raj Singh Dungarpur Voice of Cricket lecture was instituted by (Late) Nawab Mansur Ali Khan of Pataudi in 2010. M.A.K Pataudi had consented to deliver the Welcome Address at the WCS this year, however due to his untimely passing it was decided that the Welcome Address be a tribute to him. And the same was delivered by Australian cricket great Ian Chappell. “It was a great honour to be asked to deliver the opening address and pay a tribute to Tiger,” said Mr. Ian Chappell. “ He was a man I greatly admired for his courage and thoughtfulness as a cricketer, and enjoyed his company socially.”

Mrs. Sharmila Tagore said the RSD World Cricket Summit was the ideal forum to have something instituted in the memory of (Late) Nawab Mansur Ali Khan. “Tiger always looked up to Raj Singhji as a mentor and he agreed to deliver the Raj Singh Dungarpur Lecture last year as he saw it as a progression of the association and friendship he shared with Raj Singhji. Going forward I was comfortable with having something instituted for Tiger here for the very same reason.”

Mr. Mike Brearley former captain of England and Chairman of the MCC World Cricket Committee delivered the Raj Singh Dungarpur Voice of Cricket Lecture.

Debate, discussion and solutions by way on an eminent panel discussion is the other aspect of the WCS. The panel discussion this year was presided by Ian Chappell, Kapil Dev, Mike Brearley, Sanjay Manjrekar and Ajay Jadeja. A crisp but engaging debate it addressed the issues influencing cricket at present. The upcoming India - Australia series was the focus together with the frequent injuries that are plaguing Indian cricket, the ongoing trials and cricket coming under the sports bill.

An important announcement at WCS 2011 was the formation of the Raj Singh Dungarpur Foundation. Mr. Kapil Dev announced the same pledging his support both to the WCS initiative and the Raj Singh Dungarpur foundation. “Every game needs a romantic like Raj bhai. It is lovers of the game like him who have helped cricket persevere. I congratulate Jaideep for establishing a forum like this and I would urge people to contribute to the Foundation.” Parmar said, “The Raj Singh Dungarpur Foundation is the union of sport and giving. Cricketers and guests at the inaugural WCS who liked the idea and wanted to participate in some way suggested this. The thought then was to set up this Foundation such the people who wanted to contribute to the movement could do so.”

About Beyond Boundaries:
Established in 2003, Beyond Boundaries was born with a vision to help brands create a 360-degree communication approach by including sport in the marketing mix. In the years after its genesis, Beyond Boundaries established itself as a leading sports and entertainment marketing company, which connects brands and people through a unique combination of events, entertainment and experiences. The low profile company has in a short run carved a distinct niche among the country’s premium sports specialists. This has been achieved by creating distinctive brands like the World Cricket Legends and the RSD World Cricket Summit. World Cricket Legends (WCL) is a Beyond Boundaries initiative that takes cricket and cricket legends to new highs. A pioneering sports tourism property WCL brings together distinguished cricketers for an adrenaline-rushing game of cricket, each time, in an all-new destination. The WCL Cricket Match is the centre-piece of a carefully crafted itinerary that has many peripheral events: each of which is equally engaging and news-worthy, makes for exceptional picture opportunities and presents brands with unique opportunities to craft a story around its products or services.

Beyond Boundaries is the brainchild of a young entrepreneur who gave up on a lucrative corporate career to go back to what he was ordained for. Jaideep Sinh Parmar, scion of the erstwhile royal family of Muli in Saurashtra, grand nephew of late Shri Raj Singh Dungarpur was set to play professional cricket when an injury to his thumb, cut short a dream run started at the tender age of 9 when he hit his first 100. At 18 he quickly changed track and soon moved into the corporate world, and after ten years of corporate boardrooms he set up Beyond Boundaries to follow his passion.
