New Delhi, December 17, 2011 – The Constitution Club of India and JK Tyre & Industries Limited have joined hands for the second consecutive year in their effort to spread social awareness, this year’s being the noble cause of ‘Save Our Tigers’, with Aircel presenting the ‘JK Tyre-Constitution Club of India Car Rally for the MPS’.

Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Hamid Ansari, will flag off the rally at 0930 hrs from the Constitution Club of India on Sunday, December 18, 2011.The supporters of this cause are eminent parliamentarians and diplomats who will come together to participate in a Time, Speed, Distance (TSD) Rally which will start from the Constitution Club of India and culminate at Hotel Taj Palace where the winners will be felicitated by Smt. Jayanthi Natrajan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Environment & Forest (Independent Charge).

The Guest of Honor includes Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Shri Salman Khurshid, Hon’ble Minister for Law & Justice and Minority Affairs. Also present at the event will be Shri Rajeev Shukla, Hon’ble Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Ms. Agatha Sangma, and Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development.

Mr. Rajeev Pratap Rudy, Member of Parliament & Secretary (Administration), Constitution Club of India said “The 2nd chapter of parliamentarians car rally organized by the Constitution Club of India in partnership with JK Tyre and Aircel has emerged as a strong forum to carry a national message of great human concern which has always been a pride for India history - the tiger. This is an opportunity of Indian parliament to express the solidarity and be agent to spread awareness across the country for the national animal – tiger.”

The rally will travel through various parts of the city with every driver-navigator team endorsing the cause of ‘Save Our Tigers’ and calling for action for better tiger protection in the country. Over 70 parliamentarians along with their family are expected to participate in the full-filled weekend of rallying, a welcome break from their otherwise hectic lives.

Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, JK Tyre & Industries Limited, said, “JK Tyre has been involved at every stage in the development of motorsports in the country, from the grassroot to highest level, and our steadfast support for over three decades has earned us the reputation of being the pioneers of Indian motorsports. Being the wheels to the nation, JK Tyre has always believed in spreading social awareness and we associate ourselves with causes that benefit the society and the nation at large in every possible way. Last year the rally promoted the cause of ‘drive safe’ and this year, along with the Constitution Club of India and our new partner Aircel, our country’s parliamentarians have come together to support the cause of Save Our Tigers which is the call of the hour.”

From around 40,000 at the turn of the last century, there are very few wild tigers left in India today. Illegal poaching of tigers and destruction of their habitats are among the biggest challenges faced in the fight to Save Our Tigers, and JK Tyre, Aircel and the Constitution Club of India have come together to create further awareness on this cause.

Mr. Rahul Saighal, Chief Marketing Officer, Aircel said, “This initiative is in line with our continued commitment to Save Our Tigers. We are privileged to partner with Constitution Club of India for the MPs Car Rally to raise Public consciousness about Tiger conservation.”

The rally will be conducted on the Time-Speed-Distance format, an interesting concept in which the focus is on precision rather than speed. A driver gets penalized for getting to a particular point early or late, and the penalties are higher if he comes in early. To ensure that the JK Tyre Constitutional Club of India Rally stays true to the spirit of the sport, all time control marshals will be former JK Tyre Racing Champions.

About JK Tyre Motorsports

JK Tyre has always been closely associated with the world of sports. Almost three decades back the company laid down a long term and sustained approach to promote Motorsport. Participating in this form of the sport has helped the company in continuously updating its products to meet the challenges of grueling Indian conditions. The sport at that time in India was perceived for elite but JK Tyre took upon itself to package and redesign the sport to suit the masses. The company not only made the sport affordable but also equivalent to International operating standards. JK Tyre’s foray into Motorsport was a well thought out strategic decision to not only use and develop this virgin branding platform but also to realize the dreams of making India a force in the field of motor sport.

The company recently made the biggest announcement in the history of Indian motorsports by launching the JK Racing Asia Series. The series has been running successfully since 2001 and is in sync with JK Tyre’s philosophy of identifying and developing young racing talents to become future world champions. The JK Racing Asia Series consists of 18 races spread across six rounds and acts as a support race for Formula 1 World Championship on three occasions- including the season opener in Malaysia followed by Singapore and ultimately the inauguralIndian GP- ensuring great exposure for racers and teams at a global level. The remaining three rounds will be held during the Asian Festival of Speed (AFOS) in China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Racing and Karting programme by JK Tyre has been the breeding ground for the country’s motorsport talents like Narain Karthikeyan, Armaan Ebrahim, Karun Chandhok, Aditya Patel and other new emerging talents.
