PVL side Chennai Spartans 1st Indian club to enter AVC C'ship semis

MUMBAI: After winning the inaugural edition of the RuPay Pro Volleyball League, Chennai Spartans secured themselves a place in history on Wednesday when they defeated Ho Chin Minh City in the Quarter Finals of the Asian Men's Volleyball Club Championship to advance to the semi finals of the tournament.

With this win, they became the first Indian club to enter the last four of the competition.

The Vietnamese champions were no match for the winners of the inaugural edition of RuPay PVL as they stumbled to a defeat in straight sets and surrendered the contest 25-21 25-18 25-21 at the University of Taipei (Tianmu) Gymnasium on Wednesday. For the Spartans, Naveen Raja Jacob gave a good account of himself with an impressive haul of 17 points in the encounter.

The Indian club will now meet the winners of the Taichung Bank Vs Shahrdari Varamin encounter in the semi final on Thursday. The semi final scheduled to begin at 4 PM IST, will also be streamed live on Sony LIV.
