US pro pickleball assn signs first international deal in India

DALLAS, TX: Pickleball, billed as America’s fastest-growing sport, is going after a new frontier - India. The United Pickleball Association (UPA), which was created after a merger between Major League Pickleball and the Professional Pickleball Association in the US last February, and India-based Global Sports have inked a deal to bring the PPA Tour and Major League Pickleball to the country.

As a part of the partnership, the organizations will launch key initiatives to the country, promoting the rapidly-growing sport to a young market.

Times invests in content app Sports Flashes
MUMBAI: Delhi-based multi sports content app Sports Flashes has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from media conglomerate Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd (BCCL). Reports say the startup will use the newly raised funds to expand its audience base with “impactful marketing initiatives”. The Times Group, led by BCCL, has invested earlier in sports content - it acquired Cricbuzz in November 2014.

NRAI petitions fin min for GST relief on sports goods
NEW DELHI: National Rifle Association of India (NRAI)  president Raninder Singh has written to the finance ministry asking for a review of imposition of GST on sports equipment. Shooters in the country say they have been hit hard by the Goods and Services Tax, which envisages a 18 to 28 per cent tax on air guns, pistols, and accessories of the sport, most of which needs to be imported.
