NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Sports and Youth Services of the government of Maharashtra has awarded INR 10 lakhs to each Esports athlete of the state who represented India in the Asian Games 2022, held in Hangzhou. 

This is the first time any state has included Esports alongside mainstream sports in prize money rewards for its state players in a major tournament. The recipients of the monetary reward include Darshan Bata, captain of the DOTA 2 team, along with his teammates Krish Gupta, Ketan Goyal, and Shubham Goli, as well as League of Legends athlete Samarth Trivedi.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado: The International World Games Association (IWGA) and Birmingham Organising Committee (BOC) have agreed to postpone the 11th edition of The World Games until 7th to 17th July 2022. The Games had originally been planned to take place from 15–25 July next year.

MONACO: The 2021 World Athletics Championships will be shifted to 2022 to accommodate the re-arranged Tokyo Olympics, World Athletics announced Monday. World Athletics statement: "The IOC, IPC, Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that the postponed 2020 Games will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021.

LAUSANNE: The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo Metropolitan government and the government of Japan Monday agreed new dates for the Games of the XXII Olympiad, in 2021. The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from 23 July to 8 August 2021 (the same time slot scheduled for this year's Games).

MONACO: The Wanda Diamond League Friday postponed three more meetings which had been scheduled to take place in May. An alternative calendar for the 2020 season is to be announced in due course. Following the postponement of early-season events in Qatar and China last week, the series has decided to also suspend meetings in Stockholm (scheduled for 24 May), Naples/Rome (28 May) and Rabat (31 May).

THE INTERNATIONAL Olympic Committee's point man for the Tokyo Games has insisted there's no deadline to call off the event and that it was still going ahead as planned. John Coates, chairman of the Tokyo coordination commission, was speaking before his return from Switzerland to Australia, where he is facing a mandatory two-week quarantine.

INDIAN OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION (IOA) secretary general Rajeev Mehta on Monday said he is hopeful that Kho Kho, a traditional Indian sport, will be included in the 2026 Asian Games roster scheduled to be held in Japan. Kho Kho is currently played by 25 countries across the globe. "Kho Kho was formally recognised by the Olympic Council of Asia during the 18th Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2018.

NEW DELHI: The first-ever Khelo India Winter Games in the Union Territory of Ladakh at Leh, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir was flagged off Tuesday by Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.  The event is being organised to promote winters ports in India and to popularise these games among the youth of the country.

LONDON: The Commonwealth Games Federation has approved a plan for a Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships to be held in Chandigarh in January 2022. It comes after neither sport was approved as an optional addition to the programme of the next Commonwealth Games, which is scheduled to take place from 27 July to 7 August 2022 in Birmingham, Great Britain.
