MUMBAI: India, long known as the epi-centre of cricket betting syndicates, has now been hit by a match-fixing scandal involving football. 

Five football clubs from the I-League are reportedly under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation. As per Times of India, the CBI started a probe after it emerged that a notorious Singapore-based match-fixer Wilson Raj Perumal invested massive sums of money into the as yet unnamed clubs.

MUMBAI: Veteran Indian speedster Munaf Patel on Friday vociferously denied links to any match-fixing syndicate.  His assertion comes in the wake of a report filed by Indian Express alleging that an unnamed member of the Indian cricket team which won the ICC World Cup in 2011 was under scrutiny over alleged links with match-fixing syndicates.

NEW DELHI: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has said that it was investigating the claims of match-fixing approaches made to players from the Minerva Punjab Football Club during the ongoing I-League. The club owner Ranjit Bajaj had earlier revealed that several of his players were approached by bookies for match-fixing, a newswire PTI report said.

MUMBAI: In an attempt to prevent match-fixing, the AIFF has rescheduled the Hero I-League match between Gokulam Kerala FC and Mohun Bagan, which was earlier scheduled to be played on Tuesday, to March 8, the final day of the league.

NEW DELHI: I-League team Minerva Punjab FC's owner Ranjit Bajaj claimed Wednesday that two of his players were approached for match-fixing and that he had notified the AIFF and AFC.
