NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MUMBAI: Star India has beaten all comers to secure the global media rights for the Indian Premier League for the next five years. Star's consolidated bid of Rs163.475 billion for the India TV, digital (internet and mobile) rights as well as the rest of the world rights was higher than the Rs158.19 billion bid that came through as a sum of the different parts bid by the other contenders.

Qatar government owned sportscaster beIN Intellectual Property was asked to furnish financial details of its bid, but refused on grounds that it was a sovereign entity and was not required to do so.

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is yet to confirm dates for its South Africa tour in December this year. Cricket SA (CSA) president Chris Nenzani said it was frustrating that dates for India's summer tour have yet to be confirmed, the South African Sunday Times reported.

CAPE TOWN: Cricket South Africa announced the inaugural season schedule of its upcoming T20 Global League here Monday, which will involve 57 games played out over 44 days. The League starts with a north-south derby between the Cape Town Knight Riders (owned by Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd, promoter company of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders) and the Pretoria Mavericks at Newlands on Friday, November 3.
