NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court Tuesday send notices to the Centre and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on a PIL filed by an IPS officer G Sampathkumar, seeking to restrain the cricket body from conducting Indian Premier League (IPL) this season without putting in place precautionary measures to prevent betting and spot-fixing.

MUMBAI: The Indian cricket board is looking at another massive pay day as the e-auction for BCCI cricket media rights failed to throw up a winner at the "end of day's play" by the allotted 6 pm deadline Tuesday.  At the time the bidding window closed for the day, the bid value in the Global Consolidated Rights category stood at Rs 44.42 billion (Rs 4442 crores, approximately $680 million).

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Ajit Singh as its new Anti-Corruption Unit head in place of former Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who has been retained as advisor till May 31. Singh will take charge of the office ahead of 2018 season of IPL and he will be based out of BCCI headquarters at Cricket Centre, Mumbai.

The government is likely to make an open invitation to nations for the same, at the Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOGM) summit, scheduled for April in London.
