NEW DELHI: The most powerful cricket body in the world has yet again been forced to eat humble pie after falling at the wrong end of the stick on the legal front. Needless to say, it is a seriously expensive pie. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly ready to cough up compensation of over Rs8 billion to IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala for terminating its contract in 2011, a massive mark-up on the Rs3 billion the team's promoters were initially willing to settle for.

MUMBAI: The challenge of an India unfriendly time zone, added to the fact that New Zealand's cricket is of little interest to the average Indian viewer (and by extension television broadcasters), has led to the BCCI declining to play away Tests against the Kiwis. The Tests in New Zealand start at 3.30 a.m., which is not appropriate for fans in India to follow the match, a report in newspaper DNA said.

MUMBAI: The formation of a disputes resolution committee (DRC) to resolve the issue of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) seeking $70 million as compensation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun. Annabel Pennefather, an independent lawyer in the ICC DRC, has been nominated by BCCI as its representative, according to a report in The Hindu.

MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC), on the basis of projected income, hopes to get a tax exemption of around $100 million for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2021 and the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023 from the Indian government. It is the prerogative of the BCCI to get the waiver from the government.
