DUBAI: Sania Mirza, the torchbearer of Indian women's tennis, and her husband and star Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik have deepened their ties with the UAE after receiving the country’s golden visa.

The couple have been living in Dubai since marrying in 2010.

The golden visa grants the recipient a 10-year residency in the UAE, and is awarded as a recognition of a person's contribution to society, including science, culture, business and sport.

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Ministry has reportedly provided the seal of approval to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to shift this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) to the UAE. Following the postponement of the T20 World Cup by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, IPL is now set to be held during the window of September 19 to November 10.

MUMBAI: IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed Sunday that the BCCI has sent an official request to the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to stage the Indian Premier League in the UAE. “Yes, we have sent the acceptance letter to the ECB and both the boards will be working together from now on to stage the tournament,” Patel told UAE's Khaleej Times.

MUMBAI: Taking the IPL to the UAE will make monitoring the event "slightly easier" as it would be restricted to just three venues, BCCI's Anti-Corruption Unit head Ajit Singh believes. IPL 2020 is set to start in the UAE on September 19 and the final will be held on November 8 or November 10, with three venues - Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi hosting the 60 games over 51 days.
