2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games

SINGAPORE: The inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships and Commonwealth Esports Forum will be staged in Birmingham, England this summer. 

The championships is a tangible result of the strategic partnership between the Global Esports Federation and the Commonwealth Games Federation, announced in May 2020. 
The new competition in Birmingham will be supported by the British Esports Association, the not-for-profit national body established in 2016 to promote esports in the UK, increase its level of awareness, improve standards and inspire future talent.

IS IT JUST US THAT IS NOT SURPRISED that India’s hockey teams will indeed compete at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham if they qualify?  “India’s hockey men and women, if they are invited and qualify, will be here. NEW DELHI: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday criticised Hockey India for unilaterally declaring it would not field men's and women's teams at next year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, saying the national federation is bound to consult with the government before taking any such step.

BIRMINGHAM: The 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on Tuesday announced that the debuting women’s T20 competition will be held over 10 days between July 29 and August 7, and that all the matches will be played at Edgbaston.

LONDON: The Commonwealth Games Federation has approved a plan for a Commonwealth Archery and Shooting Championships to be held in Chandigarh in January 2022. It comes after neither sport was approved as an optional addition to the programme of the next Commonwealth Games, which is scheduled to take place from 27 July to 7 August 2022 in Birmingham, Great Britain.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association on Monday received full support from World Archery on its proposal to host a Commonwealth championships for the sport in March 2022, which, alongside shooting, is not on the roster of disciplines in play at the 2022 Birmingham Games.

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has withdrawn its (always dead in the water?) threat to boycott the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham over shooting's exclusion. It also announced that the country will bid to host either the 2026 or the 2030 edition of the event.

LONDON: The Commonwealth Games Federation on Monday poured cold water on speculation doing the rounds that a Commonwealth Championship of shooting will be held in India during the 2022 Birmingham Games.   Talk of a CWG shooting championship had surfaced as a compromise solution to make up for the sport's axing from the multi-sport showpiece.

NEW DELHI: Indian Olympic Association president Narinder Batra on Thursday said that the IOA's threat to withdraw from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in protest against the exclusion of shooting still stands... though there are enough indications that the extreme step remains an outside possibility.
