Citi India Bats for Children During 200th Global Anniversary

Mumbai: In celebration of its 200th year anniversary, Citi today announced a contribution of Rs 10 lakhs to the NGO CanKids. At the start of the season Citi pledged to contribute Rs 2 lakhs to CanKids, each time a team made 200 runs in an innings. This year, four teams crossed the double century mark and Citi handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs to CanKids during the semi finals on May 25, 2012.CanKids will use this money to build awareness for the early detection of cancer and to support children fighting bone cancer.

In addition, Citi also hosted 200 children from the NGOs Pratham and Magic Bus at matches in Vizag and Cuttack. At all of these matches, Citi’s young guests were extended hospitality and enjoyed the action on the field from the best seats in the stadium.

"I loved to see the match and could not believe that I was actually in the big stadium. My parents saw me on TV and were very proud. Thank you Citi." Said Ravi Kusumpati a young guest from Pratham.

These initiatives are part of Citi’s commitment to communities through its Corporate Citizenship function that is based on the key pillars of programmatic grants, employee Engagement and Local Charitable Contributions.

Pratham is a long-standing partner of Citi, and is the largest NGO working to provide quality education to underprivileged children across India. Magic Bus creates local community mentors who work with youth and children through a weekly curriculum that includes the use of sporting activities as metaphors to change behavior in the areas of education, health, gender and livelihoods.  Citi also shares a strong relationship with CanKids, an organization that supports children with cancer and their families across India.
