NEW DELHI: The 36th National Games, already delayed multiple times and scheduled for October-November in Goa, was on Thursday postponed indefinitely with a valid reason cited this time round: the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The National Games organising committee has decided to postpone National Games due to COVID-19 pandemic," Goa's deputy chief minister Manohar (Babu) Ajgaonkar, who also holds the sports portfolio, said in a statement shared by IOA president Narinder Batra.

NEW DELHI: This is beyond ridiculous. Eleven years since Goa signed the Host City Contract and more than four years since the last edition of the National Games was held in Kerala, the state is seeking postponement number 4 (emphasis ours).

GOA: The apex governing body of sports in Goa, the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has claimed that it will be requiring funds amounting to Rs. 4 billion for hosting the much-delayed 36th National Games from 30 March to 14 April 2019, Press Trust of India reports.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Wednesday signed the "Host City Contract" with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the 39th National Games 2022. Following the signing of the tripartite agreement, to which the Meghalaya State Olympics Association (MSOA) is also a party, the state government handed over a cheque of Rs 45 million as contract fee for holding the event to the IOA.
