MUMBAI: Close on the heels of the Badminton World Federation postponing the Vietnam International Challenge 2020, due to continued concerns over the Covid-19 outbreak, the BWF has postponed the YONEX German Open 2020 and the Polish Open 2020 – further reducing the number of Olympic qualifiers.

The German Open and Polish Open were scheduled to be held from March 3 to 8 in Mulheim and from March 26 to 29 in Krakow respectively, but on Wednesday the sport's world gpoverning body confirmed that both hosts had postponed the tournaments.

MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios is collaborating with Abundantia Entertainment for a biopic on ace badminton player and chief national coach of the Indian Badminton team Pullela Gopichand.  The film, a bilingual biopic in Hindi and Telugu, will chronicle the journey of Gopichand, on and off the court. The scripting of the film is underway and the shoot will commence in mid-2018, says a company statement.

MUMBAI: World number two and India's top badminton player Kidambi Srikanth has been named as brand ambassador by the ITM Group of Institutions, which owns business schools, hospitality institutes, and Universities. The group has also roped in HS Prannoy as rising star.

KUALA LUMPUR: BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer has been nominated unopposed to lead badminton’s world-governing body for a second successive term. When nominations closed last Friday, the 51-year-old Dane was the lone candidate for the position which he has held since the last BWF Council election in May 2013.
