LONDON: The FIA has approved a new, reduced cost cap for F1 teams and a new sliding scale rule for aerodynamic testing after a vote of the World Motor Sport Council on Wednesday.

A cost cap had already been agreed by the teams and the sport's governing body, but after Wednesday's vote the cap for 2021 will be lowered from the original figure of $175m per year to $145m, with further reductions in the following years.

LONDON: The Belgian Grand Prix will continue to be a part of the Formula One grid for another three years at least after a deal was signed this week between Spa-Francorchamps’ regional Wallonian government and F1 owners Liberty Media.  Belgian business newspaper L’Echo reports that the deal extends the current contract (which runs out after the 2018 event) until 2021.

LONDON: Formula 1 has launched its first ever global marketing campaign with the stated aim to "challenge the sport’s perceptions by showing through the eyes of the fans what F1 really feels like". The new campaign premieres ahead of the season opener on 25th March, with new imagery, a new tagline and a hero film featuring six "super fans".

LONDON: The Formula 1 group of companies has been selected by the FIA as the promoter for the new FIA Formula 3 Championship, which will begin from 2019.  The decision has been confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council at the meeting held today in Geneva.

MOSCOW: FIA Formula One World Championship will still "be a glamorous" sports event even without grid girls at the start of each Grand Prix, F1 chief executive Chase Carey said on Tuesday. In late January, the management of Formula One announced its decision to shelve the tradition of models lining up on the starting grids before each race citing flak from the current social climate, reports Tass news agency.
