LONDON: The six English clubs that signed up to the still-born breakaway European Super League have agreed to pay a total of £22 million as part of a settlement with the Premier League.

The Premier League and The FA issued the following joint statement on the matter on Wednesday:
"The six clubs involved in proposals to form a European Super League have today acknowledged once again that their actions were a mistake, and have reconfirmed their commitment to the Premier League and the future of the English game.

MANCHESTER: The owner of Manchester United, a key player in the failed European Super League project, has set out a vision for a "new era of dialogue and consultation with fans", including the creation of a fan advisory board and a fan share scheme. Manchester United executive co-chairman Joe Glazer met with the club’s fans’ forum on Friday to begin discussions.

MUMBAI: Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus, the three holdout clubs of the doomed from the get-go European Super League, on Wednesday vowed to fight back against UEFA's decision to open disciplinary proceedings over their roles in trying to launch the ESL.  The continental governing body is investigating “a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework”.

ROME: The Italian Football Federation (FIGC), passed a ruling Monday that states that Serie A teams who still wish to pursue the European Super League (or any similar entity) on June 21 will lose their league membership.  Italian giants Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan signed up to the controversial breakaway competition earlier this month among 12 elite European clubs.

MUMBAI: Spotify CEO Daniel Ek's bid to buy Arsenal from Stan Kroenke has received the backing of Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira, according to UK's Daily Telegraph. Arsenal's participation in the European Super League, sparked protests outside the Emirates last week, with fans demanding that Kroenke sell the club.

NEW YORK: JP Morgan, the still-born European Super League's principal financial backer, has said it "misjudged" how fans would react to the breakaway competition. The American investment bank said it had committed €3.25 billion ($3.92bn) as start-up capital for the league, which posed a direct challenge to UEFA's Champions League and also threatened to devalue Europe's top domestic leagues.

Italian Serie A side Inter Milan and LaLiga club Atletico Madrid have seen the writing on the wall, following the lead provided by Premier League clubs Tuesday to announce on Wednesday their intention to walk away from the fast disintegrating European Super League.
