International Olympic Committee (IOC)

The Indian Olympic Association, which has been dragging its feet for more than a year on the International Olympic Committee's demand that it appoint a professional chief executive, will finally re-initiate the hiring process after being called out by the IOC. 

The IOA executive council, which met in Mumbai on Tuesday, decided to issue a new advertisement for the post. The CEO will be an ex-officio member of the IOA executive council without voting rights.

LAUSANNE: The postponed Tokyo Olympic Games will go ahead next year "with or without COVID", the vice-president of the International Olympic Committee has asserted. John Coates confirmed to news agency AFP that the Olympics would start on 23 July next year, calling them the "Games that conquered COVID". They were originally scheduled to start in July 2020, but were postponed due to Covid-19 fears.

LAUSANNE: The 136th Session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the first-ever Session to be held by videoconference, elected John D. Coates and Ser Miang Ng as vice-presidents, and Mrs Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski and Gerardo Werthein as members of the IOC executive board (EB).  The Session also elected five new IOC members following the proposal of the EB on 10 June.

LAUSANNE: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has already supported the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs) with around $100 million since the outbreak of the COVID-19 crisis. To date and as needed, $63 million have been allocated to IFs and $37 million to NOCs.

LAUSANNE: Senegal and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have mutually agreed to postpone the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Dakar 2022 to 2026. President Macky Sall's proposal was welcomed by IOC president Thomas Bach, following in-depth discussions on the subject. This postponement meets the requirement of responsibility and the concern for efficiency imposed by current circumstances.
